César Estrada Chávez was born on March 31, 1927 and was a Mexican American farm worker, who became the best known Latin labor leader and civil rights activist at the same time. He, together with Dolores Huerta, started the National Farm Workers Association, which later became the United Farm Workers. In the United States there is a special holiday dedicated to honor this man. In the USA the National Doctor’s Day is the professional holiday to honor this necessary job. In 1990, the United States senate and the congress officially established this “new” holiday on March 30 and the next year it was celebrated all over the country. I think nowadays there is no person who has never used this functional and useful abbreviation O.K. But have you ever thought where from did the O.K. come? Does your wonderful Russian woman know the history of this term?
March 23 can be called the birthday of this magnificent word. In 1839, on this day the initials “O.K.” were published in The Boston Morning Post for the first time and meant “all correct”. Of course you can be filled with indignation and say that there is no any visible connection between OK and “all correct”, but the late 1830s, there was a very popular slang of misspelling many often used words in the USA. It was a much loved practice to misspell words purposely among young, educated people. Read more

In 1873 at the first International Meteorological Congress in Vienna, Austria, was created the International Meteorological Organization that expected to set up meteorological station networks. All the meteorological stations were linked by telegraph and improved weather forecasts. Later, on March 23, 1950, it became the World Meteorological Organization, expert agency for meteorology, operational hydrology and linked geophysical sciences. To commemorate this event was established the World Meteorological Day that is observed annually on March 23, since 1961.
