4th of August – the Birthday of Champagne

Champagne! It seems everyone have tasted or at least have heard about this wonderful beverage. But does everyone know when and by who champagne was invented? Champagne is a sparkling wine produced exclusively within the Champagne region of France and was named after it. Champagne was invented on the 4th of August 1668 by Dom Pierre Pérignon (1639 – 1715), a Benedictine monk at the respective abbey of Saint-Pierre d’Hautvillers. At his free time Dom Pérignon experiment with producing wine and one day he presented other monks with a wonderful wine drink with sparkling bubbles, which was a forefather of modern champagne. Also Dom Pérignon offered to use cork stopper which is used till now. The technology of champagne production was firstly published in 1718 and only 1728 was founded the first firm that produced it, “Ruinart”. In the XIX century champagne became popular all across the world. Nowadays champagne is one of the most romantic drinks.
